Cow Herd

For the Krebs family, the cow business is our only business. Simply put, the cowherd is the lifeblood of the ranch; it is our only source of livelihood. Eldon puts it best when he says, “these cows work for us, we don’t work for them”. Consequently, our breeding philosophy is deeply rooted in a strict discipline based on real world facts and results, not quickly changing breed fads and trends. The Whitestone Krebs cowherd is the culmination of over 30 years of selection pressure focusing on the functional traits required for Angus cattle to thrive, on their own, under commercial range conditions in the Sandhills of Nebraska. While strong emphasis is placed on the all-important traits of growth and carcass performance, we know that quality and phenotype also heavily impacts the bottom line of our customers. We consider quality and phenotype as important as any objectively measured statistic and demand impeccable confirmation in our cowherd and their resulting progeny. Only the superior producers, who efficiently maintain themselves, rebreed on time, and consistently wean pounds of beef, survive Eldon’s strict culling regiment. The result is a consistent, uniform, and dependable cowherd that works for us and, more importantly, works for our customers. Pictured below are some of the top producing families in the Whitestone Krebs herd. Many of these females have sold in our past production sales and have gone on to serve as foundation donors in some of America’s top Angus programs.
