Rain! Rain! Rain!

While we are a long way from building an ark, those of us in Western Nebraska have finally begun to receive some much-needed rain. This past winter gave us a modest amount of moisture from some snowfall, and then, on the week prior to Memorial Day, the spring rains finally began to fall. Since then, we have received a total of about 6 inches. It has been a perfect slow and steady type of rain that has triggered a response in the growth of our grass and crops not seen in these parts for a long time! We are thankful for the blessing of rain and are hopeful that the moisture continues through the summer!

May – Way Farm Herd Visit

On June 1 st, we visited the Flory family of May-Way Farms, in Baldwin City, Kansas, and had a chance to see some excellent Angus cattle sired by the WK herd sire, MC 2500. After seeing their quality replacement heifers, Jake commented, “The May-Way operation has kept one of the broodiest sets of 2500 females that I’ve seen anywhere”. From there we moved the show barn where we saw an ultra-powerful son of MC 2500 being prepared, by MacKenzie and Caleb, for competition this summer. He is an embryo bull out of the foundation May Way Primrose donor, P054, a daughter of Sudden Impact. Above is a picture of the bull, be sure and look him up at the National Junior Angus Show in Des Moines, IA...he’s a good ‘un!

New Business in Gordon to Benefit WK Bull Customers

Western Sire Services is building a new, full service, bull collection facility in Gordon, NE. Scheduled to open in the fall of 2007, Western Sire Services will house approximately 50 bulls. John Weston, who has moved to Gordon from Mitchell, S.D, will manage the new bull stud. Many WK bull customers want semen collected on their newly purchased sires before taking possession and turning them out with cows.
