Simmental Division
Angus cattle totally dominate the sand hills of western Nebraska, they dominate the commercial and purebred sale barns, they dominate the feedlots, and they most certainly dominate the pastures at Whitestone Krebs. Put simply, Angus reigns as king of cattle, and like the old saying goes; it’s good to be king! We believe that one reason Angus cattle enjoy such immense popularity, is because of their distinct ability to rapidly improve quality and add value to cattle of less worth, be it in a commercial cowherd, or in an entire breed.
For decades, commercial cattlemen have depended on the Angus bull to stamp their calves with the all-important black hide, increase uniformity and consistency, and ultimately, create a premium above market at sale time. It turns out; they’re not the only ones to discover the great value of Angus cattle. In a race reminiscent of the 1949 California gold rush, alternative breeds have rushed to add “black gold” to their genetic portfolios by opening their breed registries to Angus. Some have made considerable strides in adding quality, reliability, and profit potential into their cattle, and topping that list, is the Black Simmental. The introduction of Angus genetics into the Simmental gene pool has resulted in a composite that is consistently black hided, moderate framed, and powerfully muscled. Angus influence has given the Black Simmental female added body depth, fleshing ease, and udder quality, while the modern-day Black Simmental bull combines low Angus-like birth weights with the added muscle and performance of the Simmental. In our March 14, 2008 bull sale, the WK will begin offering a selection of Angus x Simmental Hybrid bulls for those customers seeking added muscle, hybrid vigor, and improved yield grades.
Indeed, Angus is King over all breeds, but no earthly king rules alone. As seed stock producers, we believe that purebred Angus bulls continue to be the best choice for most, yet we recognize an Angus Hybrid may better serve some producers competing in today’s niche beef markets. Therefore, just as you have always counted on Whitestone Krebs to deliver to you the very best in purebred Angus genetics, you can now look to us to provide you with the best in Angus Hybrid’s, as well. We are constantly looking for better ways to serve you and we believe that providing you with greater genetic options is one way to do just that.
